This is a collection of monuments that will record the names of family members who may not be buried at our family plot in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Buffalo, NY. I became interested in this idea when I first started doing genealogy research - it's so much easier to make family connections if their names are together on a family monument.
Having their names together somehow makes them still alive. In a sense, though, I'm not really doing it for those who are in the past - I'm doing it for the present, for the people who are alive today. You really only have memory for about two generations. Interestingly enough, I've lived in places that I've found are close to places to where my ancestors lived.
If I were to make a monument to one person alone, it would be my mother. She was a book publisher and an English major, so perhaps I might write a book, rather than make a monument.
